Mrz 012015

(English below, en Francais au-dessous)

New Publication: “Les Tracteurs Citroën”

At this year’s Retromobile 2015 resp the Citroën booth in Hall 1, some authors were given the opportunity to present their publications around Citroën and DS towards the public.

One of the most interesting recent publications addressed a rather exotic segment of vehicles from the early years – the tractors made by Citroën. We met the author Thierry Zenard and learned from him a lot about a very much unknown component of the company’s history.

The summary:

Citroën is known worldwide for its high level of innovation. This book follows the approach of the company to present itself as partner for another division , agriculture.

Citroën is a myth, but also was capable to develop and provide tractors and also 4×4 versions. In both cases, the technical solutions used at their time were far ahead of other manufacturers. But the projects were abandoned. Why is that? Citroën today as one of the leading companies could be in the agricultural industry business… However, the development of the tractors at Citroën had not been neglected – many proven elements were used in their development, and, of course, include the production chains of the automotive production in Citroën’s premises to to produce these tractors …

About the author:

The author is photographer and reporter for magazines that specialize in mechanization and agricultural topics and historical developments. His studies substantiate on a broad technical knowledge that will help him to interpret the technical documentation of industrial correctly. His family origins are, moreover, that he is the descendant of the inventor Eugene Pastoureau who, among other things, had developed an automatic potato planter.

The author has done extensive research in France to find the best, especially many unpublished documents, and of course discover the extremely rare Citroen tractors. Among other things, he was able to identify the 4×4 Citroën tractors through labeling on the engine blocks.

Why this book?

Did you know that Citroën has also produced tractors? Reducing the company Citroën to a pure automobile manufacturers would not do justice to the truth. In the course of the pages the author develops the agricultural perspective and history of a legendary brand. The first Citroën tractor that was realized in series, with a one-piece (monobloc) chassis, and also the prototype tractor with 4×4 drive. The tractor was a constant idea of the company Citroën. Too bad that tractors were not industrialized and commercialized, especially as these technical solutions have been democratized not only in France – you can say: Citroën was ahead of his time around 40 years.

The tractor has initiated the evolution of agriculture. The philosophy of Citroën was to make the mechanization accessible for all people worldwide. The book can be seen as a monograph, not only to describe all versions of Citroën tractors but also as a compilation. This authentic book is the way it looks, equipped as rich iconography: a remarkable and meticulous work.
