German prices for historic vehicles slightly on the rise in 2015

Below the German translation of the press release of the VDA (Association of the German Automotive Industry):

The classic car prices have increased moderately again in the past year within Germany. The so-called “German Oldtimer Index”, annually issued by the Association of the German Automotive Industry (VDA), noted down an increas in 2015 by 5,6 percent. The index rose from 2.285 to 2.413 points. This increase corresponds almost exactly to the average annual increase since the survey of the index (1999). In the long term the “German Oldtimer Index” shows a clear positive trend upwards.

First place in the ranking of the vehicles with the greatest increase in value over the previous year is for the first time a classic car of a Japanese brand:

The Toyota Celica Coupé model years 1972-1978 is by far showing the biggest increase. Next comes an American: The Pontiac Firebird built between 1978 and 1979 was the second best in market appreciation.
Third place is held by the Porsche 356 C model with 75 hp, which was built in 1964 and 1965. Fourth place went to Ferrari 328 GTS (model years 1985-1988). Fifth place is related to the Mercedes-Benz 280SL from the construction years 1968-1971 – better known as the “Pagoda”.
An interesting climber ninth place is the Mazda MX-5 convertible first generation (1989-1994). This vehicle is a classic vehicles representing the classic car of the future in the index.

The ranking of the vehicles with the most compelling value since the beginning of the index calculation in 1999 leads the other hand again a legendary model: The Mercedes-Benz 300SL (Gullwing) has increased most since 1999th. In second place followed by another icon of automotive history, namely the VW “Bulli” (VW Bus Type 2 T2). Third place was another crowd favorite, namely the “duck” (Citroen 2CV). Both vehicles owe their high capital gains in the past 15 years due to a relatively low base.
Here is another model from the segment of everyday vehicles of the 1970s: the Ford Escort 1100S (model years 1968-1970).
The five best value performance since 1999 is related to the Porsche 924 Coupé (model years 1976-1979).

The German Oldtimer Index is created on behalf of the VDA by Bochum based market value specialists “classic-analytics”. To determine the index, 88 vehicles are selected that depict the German classic car market representative due to their specifications, their manufacturing country and their frequency. The current registration figures are included in the calculation.

We’d like to thank the VDA for sharing this information with us – and you.
