Wer kennt sie nicht, die Halbkettenfahrzeuge von Citroën (“Kegresse” / “Autochenille”), die in den legendären Expeditionen wie der “Croisière Jaune” und “Croisière Noire” den innovativen und einzigartigen Ruf der Marke mitbegründeten?
Auch in Ägypten ist man sich dieses besonderen Erbes bewusst:
vom 14.-26. März 2014 findet unter der Schirmherrschaft des Ministeriums für Tourismus eine einzigartige Kegresse-Expedition statt, die den Jahrestag der Entdeckung des Gilf-Kebir-Plateaus in der westlichen Wüste Ägyptens im Jahr 1925 durch Prinz Kamal El Din Hussein würdigen soll.
Der Prinz war auch der erste, der die Weitsicht hatte, Automobile für Erkundungen in entfernte Wüstenregionen in diesem Teil der Welt einzusetzen. Grosse Kamel-Karawanen mit bis zu 500 Lasttieren dienten als logistische Nachschubversorgung für Proviant, Ersatzteile und Kraftstoff. Prinz Kamal El Din Hussein war derjenige, der das in der südwestlichen Ecke von Ägypten gelegene Plateau Gilf Kebir entdeckte, kartographierte und benannte.
Eine Gedenktafel zu Ehren des Prinzen wurde an der Südspitze des Gilf Kebir Plateau im Jahr 1933 nach dessen Tod durch Graf Lászlo Almásy niedergelegt.
In dem Hollywood-Film “Der englische Patient” (Gewinner von neun Oscars im Jahr 1996) transportierte der Protagonist Almásy (genauer: László Ede Almásy de Zsadány et Törökszentmiklós, 22.8.1895-22.3.1951) jene Gedenktafel für Prinz Kamal El Din Hussein zum Plateau. Auf den Spuren jener großen Entdecker wird auch die Expedition im Jahr 2014 verlaufen. Namhafte nationale und internationale Wissenschaftler werden an ihr teilnehem (teils als Sprecher in begleitenden Veranstaltungen) und faszinierende Vorträge zu relevanten Themen präsentieren.
Die Organisatoren sind bestrebt, so viele Citroën-Kegresse-Besitzer wie möglich einzuladen, an dieser einzigartigen Expedition in die Wüsten mit ihren Halbkettenfahrzeug teilzunehmen und so ein einmaliges Abenteuer, das vor rund 90 Jahren in der ägyptischen Sahara stattfand, mitzuerleben.

In the footsteps of Prince Kamal El Din Hussain’s Citroën Kegresse Autochenille expedition 1923-1926
This is a historic event taking place from the 14th to 26th of March 2014, under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism.
The expedition’s aim is to commemorate the anniversary of the memorial plaque of Prince Kamal El Din Hussein who discovered the Gilf Kebir Plateau in the Western Desert of Egypt in 1925. The Prince was also the first to introduce the automobile into deep desert explorations, in that part of the world. Massive camel caravans of up to 500 animals were carrying his fuel supply as the logistical backbone of his ventures. He was the one who located and named the Gilf Kebir Plateau, in the South West corner of Egypt.
A memorial plaque was laid down by Count Lászlo Almásy. This plaque was placed in honour of the Prince at the southern tip of the Gilf Kebir Plateau in 1933 after his death. The Prince was the first to introduce the automobile into deep desert explorations.
In the Hollywood film “The English Patient” (winner of nine Oscars in1996), the main character was transporting Prince Kamal El Din’s plaque to the Gilf Kebir Plateau in 1933. So now we will be following the footsteps of those great explorers. Well-known national and international scientists will take part (as SPEAKERS) in this expedition and will present intriguing lectures on relevant topics.
The organizers are seeking to invite as many Citroen Kegresse owners as possible to be part of this one in a life time deep desert expedition, to come with there half-track Citroens and re-live an adventure that took place 90 years ago in the Egyptian Sahara Deserts.
