Was die wenigsten wissen:

Auch im Iran wurden einst Citroën in Lizenz von “SAIPA” (Société Anonyme Iranienne de Production Automobile, gegr. 1966) hergestellt.

(Infos u.a. hier: http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2014/07/26/372867/ikco-to-cooperate-with-renault-peugeot/).

New ACI Member: Iran

ACI’s newest member since mid August 2014 now is the Iran where the “French Classic Car Club” is the most active organisation to cater for Citroën and other models. What rather few people know: Citroën cars were once also produced under license in Iran first by “SAIPA” (Société Anonyme Iranienne de Production Automobile, founded in 1966) and later on by “IKCO” (Iran Khodro Company), today Iran’s biggest car manufacturer.

As one of the first models were the AK350 was produced by SAIPA, followed by the Dyane (from 1968 onwards), marketed in Iran as the “Jiane” (translated from Persian: “Lion”). The 2CV-based derivative “Baby Brousse”, a buggy-style car similar to the Mehari, was created with a metal body instead of the European ABS version, and was offered as a “Jiane Mehari”. Then the “Akadiane” and a pickup version of the Dyane were manufactured and sold.

SAIPA negotiated with Citroën in 2000 the contract for the production of the middle class model Citroën Xantia, which was then built from 2001 to 2010 in Iran – one of the most popular models in this country, not least thanks to its hydro-pneumatic suspension. (Learn more about SAIPA on their website: www.saipacorp.com)

In the “French Classic Car Club” of Iran a multitude of Citroën models is represented: SM, CX, DS and ID, Traction Avant, 2CV, GS, BX, XM and of course C5 Series I, II C5 Hydractive 3 and 3 + models are driven by its members.

As reported in the press earlier this year, PSA Peugeot Citroën is planning a possible return to Iran to produce some of the models of the current range at IKCO, amongst them the Peugeot 301 and 2008 (Crossover SUV) as part of a joint venture – and also the production of C4 and C4 Picasso is currently under negotiation. (More info eg. at: http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2014/07/26/372867/ikco-to-cooperate-with-renault-peugeot/).
Before the Western sanctions on Iran have intensified, Iran was one of the most important markets for PSA Peugeot Citroën (2011: 13% of annual sales, 458.000 automobiles were built).

We welcome the “French Classic Car Club Iran” represented by its founder and president, Houtan Arefi, to the Amicale Citroën Internationale.
