Rüsselsheim, 1. September 2026 – Xavier Chardon, Absolvent des Institut Commercial de Nancy, ist 55 Jahre alt und hat seine gesamte berufliche Laufbahn in der Automobilindustrie in Frankreich, Europa und China verbracht. 1994 kam er zu PSA und begann seine Karriere bei Citroën in Italien. Nach verschiedenen Positionen am Hauptsitz der Marke übernahm Xavier Chardon 2001 die Verantwortung für Citroën in Dänemark und 2004 für Deutschland. Von 2007 bis 2009 war er anschließend als Direktor für Marketing, Presse und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit tätig, bevor er Geschäftsführer von Citroën Frankreich wurde – eine Position, die er bis 2011 innehatte.
2012 wechselte Xavier Chardon zur Volkswagen AG und wurde dort Vice President European Sales, bevor er 2014 die Verantwortung für Marketing und Kommunikation übernahm. 2016 wurde er zum Vice President Marketing and Customers für die Marke Volkswagen ernannt. Anschließend wechselte Xavier Chardon zu Volkswagen China, wo er von 2017 bis 2018 das „Project House Digitalization“ leitete, bevor er als Vice President Sales and Marketing die Verantwortung für das Joint Venture SAIC-Volkswagen übernahm. Nach seiner Rückkehr nach Frankreich im Jahr 2021 wurde er Vorsitzender des Vorstands der Volkswagen Group France.
Seit dem 2. Juni 2025 ist Xavier Chardon CEO von Citroën. Mit Wirkung zum 1. September 2026 übernimmt er zusätzlich dieselbe Funktion bei DS Automobiles. Er berichtet in dieser Funktion an Emanuele Cappellano, Chief Operating Officer von Stellantis für Enlarged Europe.
Xavier Chardon folgt auf Xavier Peugeot, der zum Leiter der Marke Jeep® in Europa ernannt wurde. Diese neu geschaffene Position berichtet direkt an den COO von Enlarged Europe. Gleichzeitig bleibt Xavier Peugeot als Head of Heritage für Stellantis Heritage verantwortlich.

* Effective September 1, 2026, Xavier Chardon becomes Chief Executive Officer of DS Automobiles, in addition to his current responsibilities as CEO of Citroën.
* Xavier Chardon succeeds Xavier Peugeot, who has been at the helm of DS Automobiles since February 2025.
* Xavier Peugeot will continue his strategic missions within Stellantis, taking on responsibility of the Jeep® brand in Europe, while retaining responsibility for Stellantis Heritage.
A graduate of Institut Commercial de Nancy, Xavier Chardon, 55, has spent his entire career in the automotive industry in France, Europe and China. He joined PSA in 1994 and began his career at Citroën in Italy. After holding various positions at the brand’s headquarters, Xavier Chardon took responsibility for Citroën in Denmark in 2001, followed by Germany in 2004. He then served as Director of Marketing, Press and Public Relations from 2007 to 2009, before becoming Managing Director of Citroën France, a position he held until 2011.
Xavier Chardon joined Volkswagen AG in 2012 as Vice President of European Sales, before taking on responsibility for Marketing and Communications in 2014. Appointed Vice President of Marketing and Customers in charge of the Volkswagen brand in 2016, Xavier Chardon then joined Volkswagen China to lead the „Project House Digitalization“ from 2017 to 2018 before taking over as Vice President of Sales and Marketing of the SAIC-Volkswagen joint venture. Back in France in 2021, he became Chairman of the Management Board of Volkswagen Group France.
Chief Executive Officer of Citroën since June 2nd 2025, Xavier Chardon will also take over the same role at DS Automobiles effective September 1, 2026, reporting to Emanuele Cappellano, Stellantis’ Chief Operating Officer, Enlarged Europe.
Xavier Chardon succeeds Xavier Peugeot, who has been appointed Head of the Jeep® brand in Europe, a newly established position reporting directly to Enlarged Europe COO, while remaining Stellantis Head of Heritage.

Diplômé de l’Institut Commercial de Nancy, Xavier Chardon, 55 ans, a consacré l’ensemble de sa carrière à l’industrie automobile, en France, en Europe et en Chine. Il rejoint PSA en 1994 et débute sa carrière chez Citroën en Italie. Après avoir occupé différentes fonctions au siège de la marque, Xavier Chardon prend la responsabilité de Citroën au Danemark en 2001, puis en Allemagne en 2004. Il devient ensuite Directeur Marketing, Presse et Relations Publiques de la marque de 2007 à 2009, avant d’être nommé Directeur Général de Citroën France, fonction qu’il occupe jusqu’en 2011.
