Reiner Sowa meets the Amicale and Citroën club in Iran

We were happy to hear that Reiner Sowa now has arrived in Iran. A few days ago he crossed the borders, and already was welcomed in Maku by some car enthusiasts and club members. His next larger stopover then was in Tabriz – Houtan Arefi, the Iranian Delegate of the ACI, had prepared for a welcome program with members of the classic committee of the “Iranian Motorcycle and Automobile Federation” in Tabriz.

Sure it was a great occasion to connect, and of course not to miss the local Citroën Dyane and a Citroën Méhari and some other classic cars!

Reiner’s stay included a well-prepared visit of historical places in Tabriz, and also another meeting with classic cars in Tabriz had been arranged.

Good to see that the Citroën club network is very active – and again thank you to Houtan Arefi and his friends and club members for making Reiner’s stay so much welcomed!

🙂

The 2014 adventure: Rainer Sowa takes his Citroën Acadiane via the “Silk Route” to Mumbai

The well-renowned Citroën 2CV crime author Reiner M. Sowa will head off for the research for his next book on a journey that many of us only dream about and yet very few ever will realize…

“Now he has taken a break from his job and is with his 2CV, one of the most bizarre vehicles in the history of the automobile, embarked on a journey along the Silk Road to India.”

These are the words in the final chapter of the current detective fiction book “Ein Bestatter auf der Flucht” (translated: “An undertaker on the run”) written by Reiner M. Sowa. Main person is Ulrich Schwartz, a criminology committed undertaker balding and close-cropped beard, which is already active in the last volume “Ein Bestatter und das Enten-Testament” (translated: “An undertaker and the 2CV testament”). Now he grabs his 2 CV, the getaway vehicle from the food crisis, with just the bare necessities.

No wonder that Reiner M. Sowa will get up to follow in the footsteps of its main character. He only writes about what he really has experienced!

With its sky-blue Acadiane he will start his journey in a few days on the way from the Cologne region in Germany to head towards

Austria,
Slovenia,
Croatia,
Bosnia,
Albania,
Macedonia,
Bulgaria,

Pakistan
to India.

If everything should work according to his ideas, he wants to ship his faithful Acadiane in Mumbai back to Bremerhaven and then fly back home to celebrate Christmas with his family.

This research trip would not have been possible without the support of many people and companies. Thus, for example, the interior finishing of his Acadiane was sponsored by Bauzentrum Metten in Bergisch Gladbach. Birke Radke of “2CV Decors” prepared graphics for the journey which now adorn his Acadiane on film and on which he will draw gradually the itinerary.

Even though his journey begins in a few days, the author appreciates any support.
Who wants to help, even if it is only with a gasoline subsidy, apply by e-mail to mail@sowa.de

The list of sponsors is published on www.sowa.de.

It would be good when also the countries and clubs in which Reiner Sowa will pass by could support him through his trip. For example, the freshly welcomed ACI member Iran wants to prepare a reception at the sports stadium of Tehran for the author and his car.

We expressed our sincerest wishes that Reiner and his Acadiane can reach the final destination without complications and return healthy and accident-free again in Germany.

Of course, the author will report regularly on the experiences on his journey. Follow his diary here:

on www.sowa.de
as well as on www.facebook.com/ReinerSowa

Reiner has offered to also be a “brand ambassador” for the Amicale – an offer which we could not reject so we’re happy to have him supporting our mission and vision…

Good luck!

Was die wenigsten wissen:

Auch im Iran wurden einst Citroën in Lizenz von “SAIPA” (Société Anonyme Iranienne de Production Automobile, gegr. 1966) hergestellt.

(Infos u.a. hier: http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2014/07/26/372867/ikco-to-cooperate-with-renault-peugeot/).

New ACI Member: Iran

ACI’s newest member since mid August 2014 now is the Iran where the “French Classic Car Club” is the most active organisation to cater for Citroën and other models. What rather few people know: Citroën cars were once also produced under license in Iran first by “SAIPA” (Société Anonyme Iranienne de Production Automobile, founded in 1966) and later on by “IKCO” (Iran Khodro Company), today Iran’s biggest car manufacturer.

As one of the first models were the AK350 was produced by SAIPA, followed by the Dyane (from 1968 onwards), marketed in Iran as the “Jiane” (translated from Persian: “Lion”). The 2CV-based derivative “Baby Brousse”, a buggy-style car similar to the Mehari, was created with a metal body instead of the European ABS version, and was offered as a “Jiane Mehari”. Then the “Akadiane” and a pickup version of the Dyane were manufactured and sold.

SAIPA negotiated with Citroën in 2000 the contract for the production of the middle class model Citroën Xantia, which was then built from 2001 to 2010 in Iran – one of the most popular models in this country, not least thanks to its hydro-pneumatic suspension. (Learn more about SAIPA on their website: www.saipacorp.com)

In the “French Classic Car Club” of Iran a multitude of Citroën models is represented: SM, CX, DS and ID, Traction Avant, 2CV, GS, BX, XM and of course C5 Series I, II C5 Hydractive 3 and 3 + models are driven by its members.

As reported in the press earlier this year, PSA Peugeot Citroën is planning a possible return to Iran to produce some of the models of the current range at IKCO, amongst them the Peugeot 301 and 2008 (Crossover SUV) as part of a joint venture – and also the production of C4 and C4 Picasso is currently under negotiation. (More info eg. at: http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2014/07/26/372867/ikco-to-cooperate-with-renault-peugeot/).
Before the Western sanctions on Iran have intensified, Iran was one of the most important markets for PSA Peugeot Citroën (2011: 13% of annual sales, 458.000 automobiles were built).

We welcome the “French Classic Car Club Iran” represented by its founder and president, Houtan Arefi, to the Amicale Citroën Internationale.

Enjoy!
