Bestand von Pkw mit H-Kennzeichen legt 2017 um 11 Prozent zu. Deutsche Oldtimer im Durchschnitt gut 42 Jahre alt.
Ende 2017 waren in Deutschland erstmals mehr als 400.000 Pkw-Oldtimer mit H-Kennzeichen gemeldet. Ihre Zahl stieg auf 422.213, ein Zuwachs von 11 Prozent gegenüber dem Vorjahr. Insgesamt stieg der Bestand aller historischen Fahrzeuge, inklusive Motorräder und Nutzfahrzeuge, auf 477.386. Das ergab die aktuelle Auswertung des Oldtimer-Bestands in Deutschland durch den Verband der Automobilindustrie (VDA).
VDA-Präsident Bernhard Mattes sagte: „Oldtimer erfreuen sich in Deutschland großer Beliebtheit. Die historischen Fahrzeuge erleben einen ungebrochenen Boom. Zwei Drittel der historischen Fahrzeuge tragen deutsche Markenzeichen. Darüber hinaus interessieren sich Oldtimerfreunde in Deutschland aber auch für Modelle von Herstellern aus England, USA, Japan oder anderen Ländern. Der VDA setzt sich dafür ein, dass Oldtimer auch in Zukunft ohne Einschränkung auf öffentlichen Straßen fahren dürfen – auch wenn sie natürlich den modernen technischen Standards meist nicht entsprechen können. Doch sie sind automobiles Kulturgut und haben eine sehr geringe Jahreslaufleistung.“
In den vergangenen zehn Jahren wuchs der Bestand von Oldtimern mit H-Kennzeichen stark an (+157 Prozent). Am Pkw-Gesamtbestand beträgt ihr Anteil jedoch lediglich 1 Prozent. Die Fahrzeuge sind im Durchschnitt gut 42 Jahre alt.
In der Rangliste der beliebtesten Oldtimer liegt seit vielen Jahren der VW Käfer vorn. 36.258 Käfer mit H-Kennzeichen sind auf deutschen Straßen unterwegs. Ein weiterer Volkswagen, der als Oldtimer zunehmend Bedeutung gewinnt, ist der Golf. In der Rangliste der häufigsten Modelle ist er gegenüber 2016 von Platz 8 auf Platz 6 geklettert. Allerdings haben nur rund 30 Prozent aller gemeldeten Golfs, die älter als 30 Jahre sind, ein H-Kennzeichen. Der Mercedes-Benz W 123 hat seinen zweiten Rang mit nun 19.718 Fahrzeugen gehalten.
Der VDA wertet jährlich die Zahlen des Kraftfahrt-Bundesamtes aus. Weiterhin setzt sich der VDA dafür ein, die politischen Voraussetzungen für ein problemloses Betreiben von Oldtimern als automobilem Kulturgut in Deutschland sicherzustellen.

At the end of 2017, more than 400,000 “old-timers” (the German word for “historic vehicles”) with so-called “H number plates” were registered in Germany for the first time.
