  • DS-Spielzeug-Autos (“was Jungs von Männern unterscheidet… 😉 “)

CitroSpecial – 60 Years of DS

The renowned Dutch specialised magazine CitroExpert, celebrating this year it’s 20th (!) anniversary, published last December their “CitroSpecial #1: 60 years of DS”.

In no less than 180 pages, the complete history of this DS is given, with only authentic and very often until now unknown pictures. Some say: it’s not a magazine, it’s a book!

The chapters are:

  • Citroëns ‘Grande Routières’:
from André Citroën with the Mors via C6, 15, CX, XM and C6 (2005) to the most recent concept cars – The ‘genesis’ of the DS 1935-1975, an in-depth history with all people involved and it’s development; includes photographs of prototypes – the evolution of the French versions 1955-1975: prices, technical specs, changes, etc.

  • special articles on the DS/ID in The Netherlands and Belgium (DS and royalty, letters from early buyers, publicity, …) – Chapron-built versions: cabriolet ‘usine’, Présidentielle, Prestige, special-bodied one-offs, sunroofs, …
  • DS and goddesses:
female presentations during carshows and photoshoots

  • DS Contrôle – the ‘new-second hand’ DS19’s during the 1950s and 1960s DS’s in French garages
  • DS toy-cars (‘the difference between men and boys…’)
  • DS all over the world. Any country where the DS was sold by Citroën between 1955 and 1975, is given it’s own page, showing the differences, specific pictures, brochures, etc. From Latin America via Africa to Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Poland, Hong Kong and Australia

Apart from these 150 pages of the “classic” ID/DS, there are also 20 pages on the ‘neo-DS’, giving a nice inside view on the succcessfull models, inluding interviews with CEO Yves Bonnefont and stylist Thierry Metroz.

Buyer’s reactions are enthousiastic, and the barrier for the publication being only in Dutch shouldn’t enthusiasts stop to obtain a copy: one of the directors at the new brand DS told us: “…. although I don’t read Dutch, I was amazed by your ’60 years of DS’. When I received a copy, I forgot to open all other letters that day…”

This unique, full-colour publication can be ordered for the very reasonable sum of 12,95 EUR, excluding shipping (the latter being outside the Netherlands not very cheap, we’re afraid).

Payment can be done either by bank transfer or PayPal.

New 2CV Book in Germany: “CITROËN 2CV kompakt”

Germany’s classic car journal “Auto Bild Klassik” recently wrote that this book follows an almost romantic idea, “…inspect a car while pulling a little book out of the pocket, which clearly and briefly answers questions about the originality, potential vulnerabilities and the model’s chronology. With this tiny hardcover booklet called “Citroën 2CV KOMPAKT – Alle Fakten und Typen” you’re well prepared…”

The new reference guide designed as a pocket book complies with the philosophy of the Citroën 2CV, of which it once was said that it reaches out to the maximum of the automobile minimalism. The author Jan Eggermann shows in “Citroën 2CV KOMPAKT – Alle Fakten und Typen” in a detailed way the fascinating world of the Citroën 2CV.

All relevant facts about the history of the 2CV – from the initial thoughts to the “french Volkswagen” until the last Charleston of 1990 and the current “2CV grandchild” Cactus – can be found as well as a full-length 2CV typology which shows all produced 2CV variants and their specific differences.

Another focus is the practical 2CV buyer’s guide of the website “Garage 2CV”: it describes what to look for when it comes to the purchase of one the small Citroën’s. All that makes the handy format of the “Citroën 2CV KOMPAKT” the ideal companion for 2CV expeditions. “Citroën 2CV KOMPAKT” should not be missed by any 2CV friend!

The new book is the start of a series of books that will address other Citroën models in the future in a similar format. Citroën 2CV KOMPAKT has 100 pages and is available at a price of 12.90 EUR, ISBN 978-3980908252, in different bookstores and booksellers, including Robri (www.robri.de) or directly from the publisher at edition.garage2cv.de.

We would like to thank the author Jan Eggermann for providing this information – and recommend this book as a Christmas seasonal gift for all those who admire this unique car…!
