„Citroën und das offene Vergnügen“ lautet das Motto des Auftritts der Citroën Deutschland GmbH auf der Techno-Classica, die vom 10. bis 14. April 2013 in Essen stattfindet. In Halle 4 präsentiert Citroën gleich vier verschiedene Cabriolets
Auf dem rund 200 Quadratmeter großen Messestand der Citroën Deutschland GmbH in Halle 4 erwarten die Ausstellungsbesucher vier Citroën Cabriolets aus den unterschiedlichsten Jahrzehnten.
Stellvertretend für die zahlreichen Citroën Modelle mit aufklappbarem Verdeck aus der Vorkriegszeit steht ein Traction Avant 15-Six Cabriolet. Ein Citroën DS 21 Cabriolet aus dem Jahre 1967 zeigt, dass auch die legendäre Göttin ein offenes Vergnügen zu bieten hatte. Aus dem Jahre 1972 stammt mit dem Citroën SM Cabriolet ein ganz besonders seltenes, historisches Citroën Modell.
Dass die Erfolgsgeschichte der Citroën Cabriolets auch heute fortgeschrieben wird, beweist das jüngste Modell der Citroën Produktpalette: Das Citroën DS3 Cabrio wurde im März dieses Jahres auf dem deutschen Markt eingeführt und wird ebenfalls auf dem Citroën Stand zu sehen sein. Das hochwertige Stoffverdeck lässt sich binnen 16 Sekunden auch während der Fahrt bei einer Geschwindigkeit von bis zu 120 km/h öffnen und schließen – eine einzigartige Konstruktion, die für die besondere Raffinesse des Fahrzeugs steht.
Die Geschichte der Citroën Cabriolets
Seit der Unternehmensgründung im Jahre 1919 haben Cabriolets bei Citroën stets eine bedeutende Rolle gespielt. So verfügte bereits das erste Modell der Marke – der Citroën Typ A – über ein aufklappbares Verdeck. Auch weitere Modelle der Vorkriegszeit wie beispielsweise Citroën B2, B10, B12, C4 und C6 oder auch die legendäre „Rosalie“ und der Traction Avant boten ein offenes Vergnügen.
Nach dem Krieg haben mehrere Fahrzeuge, die zu wahren Ikonen werden sollten, die Modellpalette als Cabriolets erweitert: so zum Beispiel der Citroën 2CV, der Citroën Méhari, aber auch die prestigeträchtige DS. Letztere wurde zunächst vom Karosseriebauer Chapron® vorgeschlagen und anschließend für die Marke gebaut.
Auch zahlreiche Concept Cars haben die Geschichte der Marke geprägt. Beispiele hierfür sind der Xanthia (1986) und der C-AirPlay (2005). Mehrere dieser Concept Cars gaben einen Vorgeschmack auf spätere Serienmodelle – wie beispielsweise der Citroën C5 Airscape oder der Prototyp Pluriel, der eine Vorschau auf die Serienversion des Citroën C3 Pluriel bot.
Zudem haben einige Karosseriebauer und Fahrzeugumbauer Serienfahrzeuge in offene Versionen umgewandelt. Einige dieser offenen Versionen wurden zu Sammlerobjekten – so zum Beispiel der Citroën SM Mylord, der SM Heuliez oder auch der CX Orphée.

Citroën and the open pleasure at the Techno-Classica
“Citroën and the open pleasure” is the motto of this year’s presentation of Citroën Deutschlang GmbH at the Techno-Classica which will take place from 10-14 April 2013 in Essen. In Hall 4, Citroën will present four different convertibles
On the 200 sq.m. booth of Citroën Deutschland GmbH in Hall 4, visitors can experience the exhibit of four Citroën convertibles from different decades.
Representing the various Citroën models with flip top from the prewar period, a Traction Avant 15 Six Convertible is displayed. A Citroën DS 21 Cabriolet from 1967 shows that the legendary goddess had to offer an open pleasure. Made 1972, the Citroën SM Cabriolet represents a particularly rare, historic Citroën model.
Another proof point of the continuation of Citroën convertible success story is being shown by the latest model of the Citroën range: The Citroën DS3 convertible was introduced in March this year on the German market and will also be seen on the Citroën booth. The high quality fabric soft top can be opened and closed within 16 seconds even while driving at speeds of up to 120km/h – a unique design which is the special finesse of this vehicle.
The history of the Citroën convertibles
Since the company’s foundation in 1919, Citroën convertibles have always played an important role. Already the first model launched – the Citroën Type A – was offering a folding soft top. Even pre-war models such as Citroën B2, B10, B12, C4 and C6, as well as the legendary “Rosalie” and the Traction Avant offered an open pleasure.
After the war, a number of vehicles expanding the convertible model range were to become true icons: for example, the Citroën 2CV, the Citroën Méhari, and also the prestigious DS. The latter was first proposed by the coachbuilder Chapron and subsequently built for the brand.
Numerous concept cars have marked the history of the brand. Examples are the Xanthia (1986) and the C-AirPlay (2005). Several of these concept cars gave a foretaste of future production models – such as the Citroën C5 Airscape or the Pluriel prototype which offered a preview of the production version of the Citroen C3 Pluriel.
In addition, some coachbuilder and vehicle conversion specialists changed normal production vehicles to their open versions. Some of these versions were to become collectibles – such as the Citroën SM Mylord, the SM Heuliez or the CX Orphée.
