Versandkosten).

New book @ ICCCR: Andrew Brodie: “An Omelette and Three Glasses Of Wine”

Visitors of the ICCCR World Citroën meeting a few days ago in Harrogate / Yorkshire had the opportunity to discover a new publicaction written by Andrew Brodie and talk to the author himself.

This book is a compilation of 8 high quality road trips produced for various magazines over the last 20 years. They were unique to the era due to special circumstances. The participants include world famous photographer Martyn Goddard, with words mainly by possibly the best motoring writer of his generation, Phillip Llewellin, with contributions from Paul Horrell & Dale Drinnon.

The trips were commissioned to show the true qualities of the cars, during long journeys to interesting places. The road trips were taken in classic Citroën like the Traction Avant, SM and other Citroën over a 20-year period, and include journeys to such diverse locations as Liège, Monaco, Paris and
Alsace. The majority of the photographs have never been seen before and are a stunning mix of reportage and beautifully crafted car images. The beautifully written and illustrated set of road trip tales will appeal to anyone who has a love of classic French automobiles.

In his foreword Mel Nichols states: “Evocative writing and stirring photography go together like food and wine. Put a fine writer and an imaginative photographer together in an interesting car on an appealing journey and you’re going to get a captivating essay where words and images mesh perfectly… We can all, then, share in the magic as the adventure unfolds. This is a book filled with stories and photographs of the highest order, all celebrating important and fascinating cars.”

Included are trip notes that show some background to the journeys and informative picture captioning. It will be a delight to read and read again as each time you grasp new nuances from the pictures and text.

Not only being a collection of magazine articles created over several years, the book also is intended to present some superlative photographs and great writing as an incentive to use your classic Citroën to explore, learn and enjoy.

In Germany, the well-known Citroën bookstore Robri.de offers this book within his portfolio (order via email). Additionally, the book can be pre-viewed and ordered from www.brodie.cc – the author is able to accept credit cards and IBAN euros to his Euro account as well. Furthermore the book can be ordered by other Citroën bookstores and online book sellers.

Citroën and the arts (4): “Illuminatroën”

We are nuts about old Citroëns. We love driving them – and because they are so beautiful some enthusiasts also enjoy drawing them. Dan Fletcher from UK is one of those guys.

His “Illuminatroën” are very large (A3) calligraphic (broad nib) drawings of classic Citroën which seem to be travelling past your window at dusk (or later). We all know that you don’t normally drive with the interior light switched on – but then it happens in the movies all the time, doesn’t it? Perhaps they are a little more mysterious because you can’t see the driver. In fact – IS there a driver? Or are these wonderfully evocative machines actually conducting themselves?

He has been a commercial graphic designer for many years, but in order to follow his love of drawing Citroën he had recently set up a new website selling his drawings printed on to T-Shirts, mugs, sweatshirts and other items where you’re able to order and own one of his “Illuminatroën” for yourself.

Each garment is individually printed – so there is an almost limitless choice of color combinations for each of the 16 Citroën models (more cars being added over time), and some variants (ie. early Traction Avant) are also available – I think the beautiful SM will have to be the next drawing being added to the ID19 Design web site.

The site has part – translations in German, Dutch and French languages, but if anything needs clarifying please e-mail Dan. There is NO on-line ‘store’ – every inquiry is individually dealt with by him. Dan will be present in the main Trading Hall at the 15th ICCCR in Yorkshire, August 2012.

The “Citroën-Strasse” stand will feature a 1939 Light Fifteen roadster, built in England – try out this rare car by yourself, and hear all the latest about the Rally. If you have not yet registered – now is the time!

There will be a special TechnoClassica discount, and the chance to win free admission!

Although the ICCCR is being run on a not-for-profit basis, you will pay more to register as the event gets nearer. At present, the Whole-Event rate is £80 for a car and driver, plus £10 per adult passenger. This will increase to £100 on 22nd May, (after the 2CV French National meeting), and finally to £120 on the gate at the Rally.

We would prefer you to book now and save money, because the earlier that we have the majority of our total income, the better we can spend it to develop the event. If you book later, or simply turn up on the day, not only will you pay more, but we will not be able to make the best use of your money at such a late stage – so book now and save up to £40!

Apart from being able to answer all your questions about the Rally, we will also have an exclusive range of ICCCR2012 clothing on sale – there are several great designs, but quantities are limited, so buy now while stocks last.

(English below, Francais au-dessous) Noch ein sicherlich bemerkenswertes Buch ist in diesem Jahr erschienen:

C David Conway,
152 Barkham Road,
WOKINGHAM, Berkshire
RG41 2RP
GREAT BRITAIN

ICCCR 2012 Update Report

Advance Booking

On 31st March 2011 the advance rate for the full event was raised from £50 to £70 for car and driver. The price increase brought in a boost in the number of bookings and this has been further strengthened by bookings taken throughout 2011 at Retromobile (Paris), The Antwerp Classic Salon (Belgium), Technoclassica (Germany) and the 2CV World Meeting in France.

The 2012 team will be manning a stand to give information, take bookings and attract more attendees to the ICCCR. We need your assistance to help us “man the stand” at these events. Please contact Mick Popka if you are interested.

Current Bookings (as at 18-NOV-11) are: 787 Vehicles, 1,590 Participants.

The special discount rate of £50/£10 (Driver & Car/Passenger) was increased to £70/£10 at the end of March 2011. The price increase was delayed by 3 months following the announcement of the change of location and date. This price will be held until 31-JAN-12 when it will be reviewed.

The price is expected to be £90/£15. Further price rises will be considered as we see how the volume of bookings matches our planned expenditure.

Day ticket prices will not be announced until June or July when we have a clear view of the overall cost model

2CVGB News, The Citroënian and FP (Floating Power) will continue to publish details of the advance booking rates.

Branded Goods

The range of branded goods available from the E-Store has been expanded from printed T-Shirts to include printed hooded sweat shirts, embroidered polo shirts and a full range of embroidered garments.

Over 100 garments have been sold to date. Plans are underway to introduce other branded items including grille badges, umbrellas, back packs etc.

ICCCR Website

Development work has been completed on the provision of an on-line booking form for tickets, trade stand booking and branded goods.

The website has been redesigned and re-launched to emphasise the brand and give easy access to information. The translation of pages to French, German and Italian is commencing.

Over the past 12 months the Website has had over 110,000 visits.

Event Site

The change of site which was announced in January 2011 from Pickering to Harrogate has had a minimal impact on bookings with only 3 cancellations. Site visits have been held on a bi-monthly basis for anyone to attend and the feedback from visitors has been very positive. The site has space, infrastructure and security. The camping area is flat and the proximity to Harrogate ensures that visitors are not “stuck in the middle of nowhere”.

Volunteers

Throughout the year volunteers have been stepping forward to fill the key roles. These include Site mapping, Entertainments, Sponsorship, PR, Catering and childcare. We still have roles to fill and if you are unable to commit to a main role we would be grateful if you would consider spending a few hours at the event marshalling or assisting with other volunteers. If you are interested, please email Mick Popka.

National/International Events

Bookings were and will be taken at the following events:

– TOC AGM (November)
– Retromobile, Paris (February 2012)
– Antwerp “Salon” (March 2012)
– Reims, France (March 2012)
– Technoclassica, Essen (March 2012)
– Citromobile, Amsterdam (May 2012)

We need volunteers to assist us with “stand duty” at the international events – if you “fancy a change” to visiting UK events your assistance is welcome, again, please contact Mick Popka.

Funding

Due to the strength of advance bookings there has been no needto “draw down” on the facilities that have been arranged with the 3 sponsoring clubs. Funding from Citroen will not be provided until April 2012, at the earliest, however we are confident that our accumulated reserves form ticket and branded goods sales will meet the planned expenditure.

(text: DE/EN/FR/NL) Der erste Citroën Traction Avant Sicherheits- und Zuverlässigkeits-Testlauf in England: Sonntag, 6. Mai 2012

Weitere Details – Unterkunft, Reise etc. (Hotelvorausbuchungen sind Pflicht!) – entnehmen Sie bitte dem englischen Text weiter unten.

Weitere Anfragen richten Sie bitte an grahamhandleyhandley@btinternet.com

Vielen Dank!

THE FIRST UK CITROEN TRACTION AVANT
SAFETY and RELIABILITY RUN – SUNDAY MAY 6th 2012

This is your opportunity to test and prove the Safety and Reliabilty of the Traction Avant and in particular your own car and your driving ability.

The event will follow some of the motor vehicle trial and test routes of the 1920’s and 1930’s which, it is said, helped to develop the motor vehicles as we know them today. It is based on the route of The Beamish Safety and Reliability Trial (known as The Beamish Run), re-started in 1971 by The Friends Of Beamish Museum, for any pre-1956 Classic Car.

It is run annually, always on the 3rd Sunday of June. 130 cars did the run in 2011, two were Tractions which completed the course and both drivers and navigators said it was a “wonderful experience”.

Because of restricted numbers able to participate, and clashing with other TOC events, it has been decided to hold a seperate independent Traction run in spring 2012, offering a similar style run to all Traction Owners and for Tractions only.

Whilst testing you’ll see some of England’s best countryside and viewpoints.

The 155-mile route will wind its way through the charming and unspoilt County Durham countryside and forested areas to Barnard Castle said to be the gateway to the Dales. Passing by the wonderful French chateaux style portico of the award winning 19th century Bowes Museum. Then on to the Yorkshire Dales over the Stang Forest hills to Arkengarthdale, then turning for Low Row and Gunnerside, heading on to the majestic Buttertubs Pass, via the village of Muker. The route runs through Swaledale via Hawes and onto Bainbridge for a well earned lunch stop. The afternoon session starts with a climb from Askrigg and back to Muker.

The route continues via Thwaite, Keld then up Silver Hill to Tan Hill (Britains Highest Pub – if time permits, “Time for a beer perhaps!”) We then head across Bowes Moor to enter Cumbria briefly and on to Brough and the Durham Dales.

Over Hamsterly Common and into Weardale. Into Stanhope, missing out the ford crossing up Crawleyside Bank and on to Stanhope Common. The route now heads to Lanchester along interesting old Roman roads and back to Chester-le-Street.

The Run is meant to be a testing run for both car and driver but is not a competition. It is not meant to be a vehicle breaking course but as the route takes you over open wild countryside, before embarking you should ensure your car is up to it.

Occasional checkpoints will be in place to assess your knowledge of the Traction, the route and your driving ability.

It is meant to be fun and adventurous. You will need a navigator/co-driver.

As you know, two Tractions have already completed the course so it can be done and you and yours can do it as well.

So, make this your first weekend event for 2012. Drive to County Durham on the Saturday, stay over at one of the suggested hotels, do the run on the Sunday, stay over on the Sunday and head back home on Bank Holiday Monday.

Excluding accommodation and meals (a BBQ may be offered after the Run if there is demand) we expect the cost to be no more than £15 per car to cover Run plaque, achievement car badge, postage etc.

Run-rallyplaat, autobadge, kosten enz.
