(English below, en Francais au-dessous)

(English below)

CITROËN launches “Créative Tour” to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Croisière Jaune

André Citroën launched the Croisière Jaune in 1931. A pioneering rally raid from Beirut to Beijing along routes that had never before been travelled by motorised vehicles, the expedition fascinated the world. Eight decades later, the brand has lost none of its daring spirit. To celebrate the anniversary of this extraordinary scientific, artistic and human adventure, CITROËN is launching a new cross-border event, “CITROËN Créative Tour”, an innovative road show drawing young and old into the world of “Créative Technologie” complete with parades of outstanding concept cars. The tour kicks off in Europe in Berlin from 17 to 19 June, followed by Paris from 24 to 26 June and Moscow in September. The celebrations will continue in China before the year’s end with more surprises.

A movable pavilion for an innovative road show

In 1931, faced with the crossing of the Himalayas and the danger of landslides, the valiant pioneers of the Croisière Jaune had to dismantle their half-track vehicles to get through the roughest terrain. Some 80 years later, the brand has once again chosen the same dismantle-and-reassemble principle for the CITROËN Créative Tour. This original road show will be stopping in Berlin at the BallonGarten park from 17 to 19 June, in Paris at the Invalides building from 24 to 26 June and in the centre of Moscow in the autumn, before moving on to China for more festivities.

Three “domes” for three distinct creative exhibition spaces

Comprising three linked-up domes, the pavilion used for the CITROËN Créative Tour illustrates all of the brand’s boldness and creativity:

– “Innovation” dome: the largest space in the pavilion immediately transports the visitor to the world of CITROËN “Créative Technologie”. The vehicles are displayed alongside astonishing contemporary and interactive artistic creations. The sculptural bonnet of the CITROËN C4, finished in heat-sensitive paint, constitutes a work of art in its own right. The “Revolte” concept car is flanked by the DS line, namely the DS3, DS4 and DS5. This last model, revealed in Shanghai in April, will be the first CITROËN to feature full-hybrid technology, HYbrid4.

– “Sensation” dome: this space, located at the centre of the pavilion, is dedicated to interactivity and digital leisure. Visitors can have a go at “Live Car Painting”, colouring in the roof of the CITROËN DS3 using a touch screen. Thrill seekers can get behind the wheel of the GTbyCITROËN concept car on the famous Gran Turismo 5 game, available on Sony PlayStation 3.

– “Adventure” dome: the third space showcases the daring exploit of the 1931 Croisière Jaune. A half-track vehicle is on show, surrounded by the expedition equipment that was used at the time. Visitors also get to relive highlights of the adventure with a map of the expedition animated by films projected by a special robot!

Concept car parades in city centres

In each capital city destination, the CITROËN Créative Tour will feature parades of the brand’s emblematic concept cars three times a day. With models including Survolt, a 100% electric true-blooded racing car, and GTbyCITROËN, a real-life version of the car designed by CITROËN for the Gran Turismo 5 video game, thrills are guaranteed! And for still more excitement, CITROËN is organising a competition via a dedicated mini-website (www.creativetour.citroen.com), with lucky winners getting an insider’s view of the event as a passenger in one of these exceptional cars!

Practical information:

– Free admission
– Berlin: BallonGarten park, Friday 17 to Sunday 19 June 2011, 10 am to 8 pm.
– Paris: Cour du Dôme des Invalides, Friday 24 to Sunday 26 June 2011, 10 am to 7 pm.

///Stephan Joest.

english translation: (please spread to your clubs and members, thx)

It is just a matter of a few weeks and then world’s biggest classic car show, the 23rd “Technoclassica” in Essen/Germany will be welcoming almost 200.000 visitors from more than 41 countries. From March 31st until April 3rd, the big German Citroën car clubs will team up at the “Citroën-Strasse” 400sq.m. booth to celebrate the golden jubilee: “La Ligne en Z – 50 Jahre Citroën Ami” (http://50jahre.ami6.de/). Around half a dozen different types of cars will be shown to the audience, amongst them a rather rare original Ami8 Break Service.

Quite the highlight for our presentation booth in hall 9.1-135 will be the Citroën C60, the only still existing prototype with that famous “lunette arriere inversee”, the backward slanted rear window. Actually constructed as the next successor model to the “interim solution” Ami6, it still shows off elements of DS, Ami and also several styles which have later on materialized in the Panhard 24 (the C60 hydropneumatic concept and production cost quite close to DS level would not have met the price range in which it was supposed to compete against it’s mid-class segment rivals…).

Stephan Lützenkirchen

Stephan Lützenkirchen, Head of PR Citroën Germany

We are very proud about being able to show off this unique prototype at our booth, the first time that we can realize this for the German Citroën fans. We would also like to thank both the German Citroën subsidiary, Mr. Stephan Lützenkirchen who is head of the Press department and our new ACI-D counterpart, as well as the French Citroën headquarters and Denis Huille from the Patrimoine who have made this possible.

Next to the 1:1 car, smaller models of prototypes of the Ami series, the “maquettes”, will be displayed. These 3D-miniatures created by the famous “Bureau d’Etudes”, the Citroën design office headquarters in 15th arrondissement, will give visitors a glimpse on how the development of a new car is evolving over time.

It is stated about Flaminio Bertoni that the Ami was his most beloved creation which materialized into an orderable car. When we met Monsieur André Estaque (he headed the design office in that era) at Retromobile 2011, he confirmed this to us as he remembered also Bertoni talking happily about the “très joli fes” (a nice ass) of the Ami design. Hope you all share his opinion…! 😉

Additional contemporary documentation, details of the technology and memorabilia allow more insights into the era of “La Missis”, and a large multimedia production will complete the visual experience for our visitors.

The German car clubs will gap the bridge between the DS-Ami hybrid and the years after by several another highlights, amongst them the famous “DS Cutaway” model, once created for Jacques Wolgensinger in the mid 60s to visually expose the stunning technology of the Citroën DS. This will be the first time that this model will be on show after a careful restoration and cleaning process has taken place 3 years ago (check out www.dsclub.de for more details). Additionally, the 2CV “Samson”, XM, CX Turbo 2, SM and Traction Avant will be showing off “creative technology” of Citroën over the decades.

At the ACI counter, info from the upcoming 2CV World Meeting 2011 in Salbris/Loire (www.2cvfrance2011.fr) as well as Mick Popka from the ICCCR 2012 team (www.icccr2012.org.uk) will be present to allow discounted registration to join the upcoming global events. Oh, and do not forget to ask for one of the famous Citroën-Strasse red wines – the “Chateau de Vitrine limited edition” jubilee bottle is a well-sought collectors item!

Next to the club booth, the Citroën Germany booth in Hall 5 will complement the presence at Technoclassica. The celebration of “80 years of Croisière Jaune” and it’s extension into modern Citroën motor sport success is reason enough to present a stunning Kegresse P17 from the Conservatoire – one of the original “autochenilles” which joined the intercontinental raids.

NB: The Kegresse is named after the french engineer Adolphe Kégresse (1879-1943) who first worked in Russia and developed 1909 his enhanced transportation technology for the Czar, patented 1912. After the revolution he returned to France in 1919 and continued his works at Citroën together with Jacques Hinstin. Their works have been an essential contribution to establish a reputation of Citroën as a manufacturer of reliable cars.
For those who are interested into more details of Citroën Kegresse models, we recommend to visit the website of the Danish ACI Delegate Jens Moller Nicolaisen (kegresse.dk) who has spend a vast amount of time to compile an overview documentation on the Kegresse history. Well done, Jens!

Back to show – with the latest “C-Zero” true electric vehicle recently launched by Citroën, a rare “AX Electrique” will be presented to the Technoclassica visitors and give insights into early electricity-powered cars (German in-depth article at https://amicale-citroen.de/?p=964). Next to another Ami6 anniversary presentation, the soon to be orderable DS4 model will provide a preview on Citroën models for 2011.

Also Citroën Germany Head of PR Stephan Lützenkirchen is enthusiastic about the upcoming event: “We are very happy about this active and engaged CITROËN club community and we’re excitedly looking forward to extend our good partnership with the clubs and the ACI. This is where the passion around the unique CITROËN heritage is created and the outstanding history of the marque is being actively lived.”

So: experience lots of “creative technology” – we warmly welcome you at our booths!

On behalf of the German Citroën car clubs, the event team and ACI Germany

PS: For those who like the rear window style of the Ami, there is an interesting website to check out: http://autos-lunette-arriere-inversee.blogspot.com/ holds more than 3 dozen other cars which own this style element!
