Citroën Netherlands moves to a new site

Unfortunately, another historically significant Citroën site in Europe is abandoned – that famous “Stadionplein Amsterdam” building was created between 1930-1931, designed by the Dutch architect Jan Wils in connection with the nearby Olympic Stadium Amsterdam (1928). Wils was an admirer of the American Frank Lloyd Wright, whose influence on this building is unmistakable.

Wils, who is regarded as the founders of the “Nieuwe Haagse School”, was commissioned in 1929 by NV Citroën Automobiles, as the company was then known, to design a new central building. The former headquarters was previously in the Weteringschans in Amsterdam, but instead of the widely scattered premises within the city limits now offices, showrooms and workshop should be merged.

citroen-stadionplein-amsterdam-02

In the suburbs originated in the immediate vicinity of the stadium, the new construction should be placed , and also the Amsterdam city government, which shows initially skeptical that a commercial building would not harmonize with the stadium, was impressed by the new architecture.

Wils said to have shown no interest initially only to accept a commercial contract work, but granted him artistic freedom and a generous fee to have then retuned him to execute this works…

The design was is completed in 1930 and offered a showroom, a “quick service” for ad-hoc repairs and offices on the ground floor and a large repair shop on the first floor which was reached by a sloping driveway.

Wils was looking at his draft to find a balanced interaction between the new building and the Olympic Stadium. The concrete skeleton of the building with large windows allowing plenty of light in the interior and at the same time shows much flexibility in its architecture and harmonizes so well with the adjacent stadium. The building was initially held in a yellow ocher, while it is now painted white. In the 70s, the building was renovated.

In addition to the maintenance costs of the buildings and infrastructure in particular parking problems, road access and modernization of the showroom for the two brands “Citroën” and “DS” and are the main reasons for moving to a highway A10 nearby new building. The move will take place at the end of 2014.

Stephan Joest (D) -> Präsident
Laurent Moret de Rocheprise (F) -> Schatzmeister
Morten P H Ruud (Norwegen) -> Sekretär
Bernie Shaw (UK) -> Events
Willem Klein Lankhorst (NL) -> t.b.d.
Guido Wilhelm (IT) -> t.b.d.

New ACI Board elected during AGM in August 2014

In the context of this year’s most important international meeting of Citroën enthusiasts world-wide, the famous “EuroCitro” in Le Mans, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Amicale Citroën instead International (ACI), the worldwide association of Citroën and Panhard clubs, took place on 9-Aug-2014.

At the AGM also a new Board was elected. The candidates:

Bernie Shaw (UK, formerly in charge of events), Morten PH Ruud (Norway, formerly Webmaster and Secretary), Laurent Moret de Rocheprise (France, new), Willem Klein Lankhorst (NL, new), Guido Wilhelm (Italy, new) and Stephan Joest (Germany, also new candidate).

The ACI Board has in his first inaugural meeting convened immediately following the AGM and determined the formal principal functions:

Stephan Joest (D) -> President
Laurent Moret de Roche pinch (F) -> Treasurer
Morten P H Ruud (Norway) -> Secretary
Bernie Shaw (UK) -> Events
Willem Klein Lankhorst (NL) -> t.b.d.
Guido Wilhelm (IT) -> t.b.d.

The election must be filed to make it legally binding with the French authorities since the ACI is set as an organization according to French Law of 1901. This formal process is required to be completed in the next few weeks – we will keep the clubs informed.

The new Board activities are certainly influenced by competencies of the Board members along the big “ACI Event Of The Year” (Guido was part of the ICCCR Rome (2008), Bernie of ICCCR Yorkshire (Harrogate/UK, 2012) and Laurent of the EuroCitro (2014) orga team, Willem is in the organizing team of the ICCCR 2016 (NL).

Secondly, we will intensify the cooperation with Automobiles Citroën and other partners to create more benefits for the ACI resp. their clubs and members in the more than 30 countries. The cooperation agreement, for example, which was signed in 2012 in Germany between the Citroën Deutschland GmbH and the national Amicale Citroën and the clubs will certainly help.

The expansion of international partnership with Automobiles Citroën is a high priority on our agenda at the ACI. There is a considerable demand at different levels which we want to address. To this end, a strategy is currently being developed within the Board. The collaboration with the Conservatoire / Citroën Heritage already works very well and efficiently.

In addition, we have the intention to expand the ACI network – contacts with Iran, China, Chile, Brazil and other markets were already established in the first days of the new Board and we hope soon more countries to membership of the ACI to win. Iran has already become a new member.

Another goal will be to reduce internal expenses. For this purpose, inter alia, other tools will complement our ways of working – email, conference calls and online meetings are being introduced, too.

The communication of the ACI development work and project progress is certainly improved as well.

In short – there are exciting challenges that we will address – stay tuned! 🙂

Website Statistics for Amicale – thank you for your trust into us!

Just in time for “silly season” and due to the traffic announcement by our service provider, we have analyzed the statistics of the use of the Amicale Citroën Deutschland website in more detail.

In the first half of 2014 a total of around 160GB of data have been retrieved from our website www.amicale-citroen.de, which does not contain an additional volume of 55GB caused by robots, search engines and others. Every month, between 20-25GB data volume have been transmitted to you.

More than 3.3 million hits were recorded, in detail it is about 3.1 pages and 18 impressions / clicks per visitor to our website. This in turn means that many of the total of almost 140,000 visitors read more than just one page or dig into details. Also our statistics prove that many of the visitors enjoy reading our content – about 82% of visitors stay up to 5 minutes on our site.

And more than about 10% of our traffic are being created instead by PC or Mac now over the smartphones, Android and iOS devices – a lot of information is just consumed “on the fly”, and as these devices use our mobile-optimized website, it is even a larger number of visitors which we can address.

Thank you for your loyalty – and also for your valuable contributions!

We would be delighted if you would recommend us to your friends – our newsletter, which has a good four-digit number of subscribers from over 40 countries, is meanwhile read by many decisiontakers in the historical automotive sector – the domain names of our email subscribers speak for themselves…

We welcome your comments – please leave a message below.

Have fun in the summer with Citroën or any other automotive passions!

Yours “Citroenthusiastically”,

Amicale Citroën Deutschland.

(English below)

Ken Smith, RIP (29th August 1923 – 8th July 2014)

Ken was born in 1923 and was brought up in London where his mother was a teacher of English and Music and his father was a headmaster. It was naturally assumed that he would follow in his parents’ footsteps but he had absolutely no desire to become a teacher and anyway, the war intervened.

ken-smith-022

During the war, Ken’s school was evacuated to Slough in Buckinghamshire where he was a member of the School Unit of the Air Defence Training Corps (later renamed the Air Training Corps). He left school at the end of 1941 and applied to join the RAF but his need to wear glasses ruled out aircrew and while the RAF dragged their heels the Ministry of Labour put him through training as an Instrument Maker and as an Engineering Draughtsman and then in September 1942, the Ministry of Labour offered him the choice of a job in Newcastle upon Tyne or the somewhat more local Slough. He opted for the job in Slough at Citroën Cars Ltd.’s factory on the Trading Estate. This was a reserved occupation which meant he would not be conscripted. Since the production of cars had ended, the company made components for the war effort and also assembled 23,480 Ford and GM military trucks for the Canadian army.

He also joined the National Fire Service as a part-time despatch rider and cartographer of water supplies, working in the evenings, weekends and holidays.

After the war and once car production resumed, he created the first Citroën Cars Ltd. Technical Training Centre from scratch and was Chief Instructor providing training to dealers. He was also responsible for ensuring that the British-built cars conformed to the various Acts and Orders relating to the manufacture of cars at Slough and also for obtaining National Type Approval for vehicles imported from 1977.

ken-smith-021

In December 1946, he married Agnes Louise (known as Nancy) who predeceased him in March 2010.

From May 1946 he worked at the Slough Production Methods Department and this meant he always had a great deal of contact with Paris regarding adapting production methods from the large numbers built in Paris to the much lower volumes envisaged at Slough. When the DS was being developed, Ken was involved at an early stage and he had to discover everything about the DS in all its details; to assess and acquire compliance with all the British Road Traffic Acts, Construction and Use Regulations, Vehicle Lighting Regulations and all other relevant Acts and Orders; to assess the changes necessary in order to assemble, trim and paint the vehicles at Slough. This was a vehicle which was totally different from the Light Fifteen, Big Fifteen and Six Cylinder. At short notice he had to become familiar with all the components, units, assemblies and items in the car and to learn how they functioned, in particular the hydropneumatic suspension, the hydraulically operated clutch and gearchange, brakes and steering and to prepare a summary of components and materials for local purchase before production in the UK could commence. From 1954, he spent almost half his time at the Bureau d’Etudes in Paris until shortly before the launch of the DS at the 1955 salon. This meant he got to see all sorts of ‘top secret’ studies.

ken-smith-018

Ken was given the job of producing the right hand drive SM. This was on top of all his other responsibilities and he did not have enough time so the work was undertaken by Middleton Motors under his guidance. When Citroën bought Maserati, he was sent to Italy to liaise with the Maserati people and even went to evening classes to learn Italian…

Richard Bonfond (whose father, Albert ran the West Coast American Citroën Car Corporation) worked for Citroën for several years in the early seventies including some time at Citroën Cars Limited in Slough where he dealt with Ken on a regular basis. He said, “Not only did I learn to respect him for his knowledge of the make but he was an absolute jewel of a man, whose office door was always open. Never did I see him lose his temper or raise his voice no matter the situation. He was a true gentleman who will be missed.”

Ken retired from Citroën in August 1988.

He is survived by a daughter, Kathleen and a son, Leslie.

(English translation below, en Francais au-dessous)

Danke, Karlfried!

Impressions from the “Tour de Düsseldorf” 2014

The largest rally of French automobiles in Germany, the well-renowned “Tour de Dusseldorf”, took place on the weekend of July 6, 2014 for the 13th time now in the capital of Northrhine-Westphalia.

And again it is time to say “thank you” to the team of the “Destination Dusseldorf” around Boris Neisser, who once again spent a lot of time, dedication and passion to create a rally with regional highlights and a participation of more than 150 historic French automobiles in the region around Dusseldorf – this time towards Ratingen and around the Baldeneysee Essen.

Despite some challenging weather conditions – heavy rain and some high rims flooded roads partially set quite difficult road conditions – all participants came back to their destination to the city’s Old Town and were able to report from one or another anecdote on the go.

We are pleased that the cooperation with the “Institut Francais,” the “Destination Dusseldorf” and of course with the main sponsor Citroën and in particular the dealership in Dusseldorf has hit much good response.

As previously reported, is 2015 another highlight awaits us: 60 years of DS are going to be celebrated in both Dusseldorf and Cologne (see earlier report).

personen.karlfried-steinhaus

We think the beautiful pictures speak for themselves – big thanks to the “house photographer” Karlfried Steinhaus whose tireless commitment transfers much of the atmosphere of this event. His Flickr home page or ID “doubchev” is anyway always worth a visit. Thank you, Karlfried!

And now scroll down to watch the almost 200 pictures… 😉

Vintage Citroën evolving into the 21st century – the “Voiture Flottant”?

The French artist and photographer Renaud Marion has spent some thoughts in 2013 about how the cars of the 20th century can be converted into an era that we know from films such as “Total Recall” already today. The result is aesthetically very beautiful work based on photography and Photoshop and an interpretation on how he sees the car to be on the streets of today.

The Swedish artist Jakob Munkhammar has this idea taken up again and applied that concept in particular onto historical Citroen cars – his compositions known under the title “Flying Citroën” bring the fans quickly to the idea that the famous invention by Citroën from the 30s, the “flottant Moteur” (floating engine mount) or hydropneumatics were further developed into the 21st century environments – the “Voiture Flottant” …

Let us enjoy some of his interpretations of retro-modern Citroën based on contemporary press, (C) Jakob Munkhammar – see the gallery above resp. the original works at DeviantArt:

French festival in Dusseldorf – an event not to miss even for people from Cologne and beyond!

German-French friendship brings people together – even Cologne and Dusseldorf! Under this motto, the “Institut français” and Citroën have launched an initiative: Both want to inspire for events that are an expression of this lived friendship – and executed in the other city.

The initiative starts with a campaign to promote French vintage vehicles: Cologne people who own French cars are invited to actively participate in the largest rally for French car with start in Düsseldorf’s Old Town. In return, the “Tour de Dusseldorf” comes next year to Cologne, and all citizens are invited to propose an attractive picnic site or a place for a photo shoot towards the organizers.

The Institut français located in Cologne shows until July 11 2014 an exclusive exhibition of photographs of the “Tour de Dusseldorf” 2013. Moreover, we’re preparing for the coming year in early July an aerial shot with 60 Citroën DS in the city’s Old Town. The reason: the legendary “goddess” will become 60 years old in 2015. Cologne DS-drivers are invited to attend.

Within the meanwhile famous “Tour de Dusseldorf” around 150 classic cars do start on July 5th as part of the Dusseldorf French Festival in the Old Town. This year, the tour goes on a approximately 115 km long ride towards Essen & Baldeneysee region, and participants are faced by many challenges but are also able to win valuable prizes. The award ceremony takes place in Dusseldorf on July 6. Organizer is the “Destination Dusseldorf”, a trade association with about 150 member companies.

Pierre Korzilius, head of the French Institute of Cologne and Dusseldorf on the initiative: “The French Institute has the task to promote with enthusiasm the French language, culture and way of life. In my role as the person responsible for both sites, it is obvious to point out attractive events with respect France – be they in Dusseldorf or Cologne.”

Peter Wilkenhöner from Citroën Commerce, also responsible as branch manager for the Citroën sales shops in Cologne and Dusseldorf, added: “The car is still too little understood as a cultural asset. We support this year for the first time as a partner of the Tour de Dusseldorf and want Francophile Cologners give the chance to witness live a piece of French automotive history in Dusseldorf.”

The Institut français

The French Institute of Cologne was founded in 1952 by a treaty between the French Republic and the University of Cologne. The Institute building, which is a protected monument today, was designed by the Cologne architect Wilhelm Riphahn. The aim of this branch of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs is to promote the German-French cooperation in all areas. The French Institute of Cologne offers:

  • a library with about 5,000 French-language books, including many children’s books, DVDs, CDs,
  • the Bibliobus, which goes to around twenty towns in North Rhine-Westphalia,
  • language courses, which are run by highly qualified native speakers,
  • the opportunity to take language exams. The French Cultural Institute in Cologne is a recognized by the French State examination center for the DELF and DALF diplomas, and diplomas of the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry,
  • sophisticated cultural events such as exhibitions, debates on current topics, concerts, readings and film screenings that take place in our function room or in our cultural partners.

The brand CITROËN

CITROËN stands for creativity and technology in the service of well-being. Since 1919, Citroën is a major player in the democratization of the automobile. The brand gives concrete and optimistic responses to the challenges of each epoch. 2014 models offer the CITROËN more of everything that really matters: more design, more comfort, more useful technologies, and all this at reasonable cost. The CITROËN Commerce GmbH is the largest Citroën dealers represented in Germany and with offices in Cologne and Dusseldorf.

Destination Dusseldorf

The Destination Dusseldorf, founded in 1989, is an association of some 150 companies that operate private business location marketing for Dusseldorf and region. With their events Dusseldorf such as the French Festival (July 4 to 6), the vintage car rally tour de Dusseldorf (July 5 to 6), DD-Golf Cup (13 September), ProWein goes city (March 15 to 17 2015) and Düsseldorf Jazz Rally (21 to 24 May 2015) the Association annually attracts around 500,000 visitors to the city. In addition, the destination Dusseldorf offers its member companies a networking platform and is actively for site issues. For more information: www.destinationduesseldorf.de

PAK: German parliament steering group meeting on Automotive cultural heritage

A few days ago, the German parliament (“Bundestag”) steering group on preservation of the automotive cultural heritage (“PAK – Parlamentskreis Automobiles Kulturgut”) had been having it’s regular meeting. here’s our translation from the proceeding as reported by the “Initiative Kulturgut Mobilität”:

PAK 20140505 - 00 - Halder-Mueller-Jarzombek

On May 5th, 2014 the first meeting of PAK in 2014 took place, and was opened with a handover of the Presidency of Mr Thomas Jarzombek (CDU member of the Bundestag) to Mr. Carsten Müller (CDU member of the Bundestag).

To the members of the first hour of the PAK, Carsten Müller was no stranger, as he was co-founder in 2009. In his introductory speech it had been made clear that driven by his personal interest into historic vehicles his ambition sets the right needs. The new chairman expressly acknowledges the role of the PAK which is active across any political party’s boundaries and professional responsibilities, and suggests to reflect on and strengthen their own activities and engagement. In addition, he will ask to have the German Minister of Culture, Prof. Monika Grütters (which is due to their former competence in public relations in the Berlin Museum vintage car theme very receptive of Transport and Technology) and PSTs. Katharina Reiche (BMVI) to join one of the next PAK meetings.

The second agenda item was presented by Mr. Heinemann (BBE Automotive GmbH) about the industry study “Vintage Vehicles as Economic Factor”. The (German only) study is available in the download area below and addresses a quite in-depth analysis on distribution of cars and value, investments taken by the owners and market potential on an in-depth localized level.

pk-amk-joest-01

The subsequent issue was hotly debated after Stephan Joest from Amicale Citroën Germany had a lecture on electronics and aging in vintage vehicles (and soon to be vintage vehicles) and the resulting risks in terms of durability and service life. Stephan Joest also illustrated that even reserve units are not easily storable. They should be taken at least every four years from the packaging into a full operational test cycle, and then stored again under nitrogen. Even under these circumstances, on 30-year-old electronic components eg. for injection it has been observed that the rate of non-functional devices might be up or above 50% (NOS, New Old Stock, turning out to be “dead on arrival”)!

Requests addressed to vehicle manufacturers to store or provide the source code of the embedded software to allow replicas at a later stage are usually rejected. The manufacturers and suppliers are concerned that liability risks may arise from the disclosure of such information. Stefan Roehrig (VDA, Verband der deutschen Automobilindustrie, Association of the German Automotive Industry) reported a consensus that vehicles are to be supplied up to 15 years after production, but also that manufacturers had already confirmed problems with this period. For this reason, an application to the VDA Committee “Aftermarket” is set to ensure an even longer lasting supply of electronic components. The Committee shall meet in the fall together again.

As an international guest of the parliamentary circle, Tiddo Breesters , Chairman was of the Legal Commission of the FIVA was welcomed, who introduced the current survey study by the world association, which is divided into three parts and addresses drivers and owners of classic cars, clubs and traders, to cover the widest possible group of vintage related persons and institutions. Please also do participate in the study which can be found on the Amicale Citroën Deutschland website (https://amicale-citroen.de/2014/fiva-survey-2014/). The higher the participation , the more representative the result will be.

Stefan Roehrig (VDA) reported from the working group on historical vehicles in the European Parliament, which , inter alia, to concerned with the supply of spare parts for older vehicles, about the definition of the Historical vehicle at EU level and the already mentioned BBE study.

Then the circle devoted to the specific problems of the historic commercial vehicles. Still subject for discussions is the use of vintage trucks on Sundays and public holidays, as well as a ban on semi-annual safety inspection. Exemptions for Sunday and holiday traffic ban trucks from attending classic car meetings, and are issued differently in the provinces within Germany. For this, the fees and the terms of derogation vary sometimes considerably. With a fleet of less than 3.000 historic trucks, and the irregular use with very few relevant events per year, it is desirable to generally exempt vintage truck with H and 07 number plates from Sundays and public holidays ban and the semi-annual safety check. This not only reduces bureaucracy but also relieves the owner from unnecessary costs and time expenses.

For more information on the challenge of electronic components in vintage vehicles (or those who become vintage vehicles soon), please contact the Amicale Citroën Deutschland directly. A dedicated article will handle this important topic. An english-spoken version of this speec had been presented to the Amicale Citroën Internationale (ACI) Delegates during the Annual General Meeting earlier this year.

The Anniversary of Today: 25 Years of Citroën XM

In cooperation with Amicale Citroën Deutschland, the German subsidiary of the manufacturer (Citroën Deutschland GmbH) has issued a press release today related to this “modern classic”:

25 years ago, on May 23 1989, Citroën wrote history with the launch of the Citroën XM and fulfilled at the time the public’s desire for a high end model. The new top model introduced a new generation of the hydropneumatic suspension, enriched with electronic components: the Hydractive suspension. By combining the highest level of ride comfort and active safety, the Citroën XM put a strong accent in the luxury market.

citroen-xm-3

Hydractive suspension

The Citroën XM, which had his first major appearance in September 1989 at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt/Germany, as a world’s first Citroën introduced the merger of several components: the chassis of a conventional production vehicle, the intelligence of electronic management and the flexibility of the hydraulic suspension: The Hydractive suspension was born, an evolution of well-known hydropneumatics technology introduced with the Citroën DS and known from the XM’s precedessor, the Citroën CX. With the Hydractive suspension, for the first time a variable suspension with electronically controlled, variable spring and damping coordination was realized. Five sensors systems – the steering wheel, accelerator, brake, speed and body roll – are combined with the hydropneumatics and determined an optimal suspension setting within a thousandth of a second (soft comfortable or sporty and firm mode).

Awards

Shortly after his presentation of the Citroën XM has received numerous prestigious recognitions – it was elected as “Car of the Year 1990” and was also able to win a total of fourteen national and international awards.

Vehicle versions and Conversions

From May 1989 to July 1994, the first Citroën XM series (Y3) waas produced, designed by Bertone . The second generation series (Y4), produced from August 1994 to June 2000, differed externally by the centrally mounted badge, and a revised rear spoiler.

Initially there the Citroën XM was only launched as a hatchback. As of November 1991, the station wagon version “XM Break” supplemented with unusually large storage space was complementing the offer. The special series “Onyx” (1993), “Prestige” ( 1994) and “Harmony” (1996) came to the market. The luxurious versions “Pallas” (1993) and “Exclusive” – the latter , among other things with leather upholstery, African rosewood, and fully automatic air conditioning – completed the offer.

citroen-xm-v6-1

The Citroën XM was also subject to several conversions: amongst them, Heuliez built the Citroën XM Break Ambulance; and the German coachbuilder Rappold in Wülfrath (near Dusseldorf) allowed its use as a hearse.

The Citroën XM in arts

With its launch, the Citroën XM also became the object of art. In the exhibition “XM’Art” a selection of contemporary representations of the automobile, and in particular the new top model of Citroën was presented. The exhibition opened in May 1989 in Paris and then traveled throughout Europe.

The Citroën XM as a Presidential Limousine

The Citroen XM gained additional popularity was with the French president. François Mitterand sat on the Citroën XM , as well as his successor Jacques Chirac.

* Crème Princesse
* Demoiselles de Camaret en Bellevue
* Jambon en Croûte aux Epinards
* Poularde Strasbourgeoise avec Salade de Laitue
* Fromages
* Glace Petite Rosalie, Palmiers et Fruits

* Côtes Fronsac
* Mâcon
* Château Coutet 1920
* Vosne Romanée 1924
* Pommery et Greno
* Drapeau Américain

80 years of Traction Avant: Inauguration of the new Paris factory at Quai de Javel

As one of the historical documents related to the 80th anniversary of the Traction Avant, we present to you here the invitation to the inauguration of Europe’s most modern and largest automotive production of its time:

personen.andre-citroen-1932

While André Citroën had established his production facility since 1915 at the Seine riverside, known as the famous “Quai de Javel” (at the 15th district in the south-west of Paris), the site had to be modernized to keep pace with the anticipated growth of the company – it quickly turned out that the production capacity as it evolved during the 1920s were not dimensioned to suit the intended mass production.

While continuing the current production of the actual model range, the execution of this industrial groundbreaking renovation was done in a record-breaking time of only 5 months, now hosting new equipment for the efficient large-scale mass production and assembly of the anticipated new model to be build – the “Traction Avant”. Financially challenged by the difficult economic situation of the company, the banks were putting enormous pressure onto the project and insisted to be able to go into mass production as early as possible. The planned capacity was dimensioned to deploy around 360 cars per day (1934: 56.123 cars were produced in Paris) and was also prepared for a potential production enlargement: as we know, more than three quarters of a million of “Traction” were produced here at Quai de Javel!

On 8 October 1933, the new production halls were solemnly inaugurated. Under the patronage of Mr. Louis Serre, Commerce and Industry Minister in the government of Édouard Daladier (President of the Republic was Albert Lebrun) the banquet was held at the Citroën headquarters.

The culinary delights:

* Crème Princesse
* Demoiselles de Camaret en Bellevue
* Jambon en Croûte aux Epinards
* Poularde Strasbourgeoise avec salade de Laitue
* Fromages
* Glace Petite Rosalie, Palmiers et Fruits

and well as best-of-breed wines were complementing this premium dinner:

* Côtes Fronsac
* Mâcon
* Château Coutet 1920
* Vosne Romanée 1924
* Pommery et Greno
* Drapeau Américain

quai-de-javel-01

Automobile Citroën entertained at that time a dedicated company orchestra, known as the “Harmonie des Usines Citroën”, and entertained the guests alternating with the orchestra of the National Guard, and in addition to the amusing classics like “on the Beautiful Blue Danube” and the “Colonel Bogey” march of course the Marseillaise was not to be missed!

Finally, the well-known seven-minute “Marché Apotheosis” by Guillaume Balay was played – complementing the final execution of the opening ceremony!

Let’s close our eyes for a few seconds and put ourselves back to that moment time, imaging the great atmosphere and spirit during this special evening that will be remembered until today by quite a number of Citroënists worldwide……

🙂

We’d be happy to hear from you further info about the “Usines Citroën” as they help our many-thousand-readers to learn more about this era. Please leave a comment below. Thank you!

Guests can enjoy a varied program around the Citroën 2CV passion – from lectures and films, a unique market for spare parts up to joint excursions for example to “Klassikstadt”, the center for classic cars in Frankfurt. Citroën 2CV from a wide range of derivatives and original types are also exhibited at the festival grounds. Open-air live music, competitions such as the awarding of the most beautiful duck or the participant with the longest travel and much more contribute to an entertaining program.

“We are delighted to be allowed to be hosting the 6th International Germany meeting of 2CV friends” says Angelika Baumann from the organization team of the Euro-Ducks e.V. “The numerous fans of the Citroën 2CV have the opportunity to be in an incomparable atmosphere for their share a hobby. Of course, even those who are not owner of a Citroën 2CV, are warmly welcome.”

The legendary Citroën 2CV was produced 1949-1990 in a total of 3.872.583 units. Ridiculed by the press at first, it became one of the most famous cars in the world. It amazed among others with its unusual appearance, its refined design and its economy.
